Excerpt: The Two Things Jesus Does When Encountering Sexual Sin

Course: Freedom From Pornography

Speakers: Ryan Miller

Shame, Warfare, and the Path to Purity

Have you ever noticed how Jesus responds when he encounters someone caught in sexual sin? It's consistent, and it reveals how he wants to respond to you.

Grace and a New Path

Imagine God walking in on you viewing pornography. What would he say? Look to the scriptures. From the woman at the well to the woman caught in adultery, Jesus's response is the same. He meets them where they are. He defuses shame. He offers a new path.

He doesn't condemn; he confronts the accusers. He says, 'He who is without sin, cast the first stone.' He dismantles the shame cycle, the very weapon Satan uses against us. He shows us our shame was nailed to the cross.

The Three Enemies: World, Flesh, and Devil

Knowing Jesus's grace is only the first step. We must also understand the enemies we face: the world, the flesh, and the devil.

  1. The World tells you pornography is harmless. It floods our senses with temptation, accessible at our fingertips. It's like offering a recovering addict drugs and saying, 'It's fine.'

  2. The Flesh craves what's out of alignment with God's kingdom. It's the alluring apple, the immediate gratification. We like pornography. It feels good. But that desire leads to sin.

  3. The Devil traps us in shame. He accuses, condemns, and urges us to medicate with the very thing that ensnares us.

The Battle Plan

To win this battle, we need a plan. Reject the world's lies. Take your thoughts captive. Renew your mind. Seek accountability.

Understand the devil's tactics. When he tempts, he also accuses. But we can reject his shame and choose Christ's path.

This isn't just about healing wounds; it's about exercising our will. We must choose purity. We must prune the fruit, allowing the Lord to shape us.

The Lie of Empowerment

When people say porn is empowering, it’s frustrating. If porn were empowering, why would so many performers commit suicide or contract HIV? Why are the movie titles degrading? Porn isn't empowering; it’s degrading. Many performers have bought the lie that it gives them freedom, but you’re a slave to whatever controls you, whether it's porn or money.

The Dual Path to Victory

True victory involves both healing from underlying wounds and actively choosing to walk in purity. Addressing root causes and pruning harmful behaviors are essential for lasting change.
