Relational Healing: Finding Freedom from Anxiety Through Trust
The essence of our humanity, the very core of who we are, is that we are created in the image of God. And the God we follow is a God of relationship. From the beginning of time, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have existed in a perfect relationship. The Creator of the vast universe, the intricate details of life itself, is fundamentally relational. If you are created in His image, you are also designed for relationship.
The Paradox of Relational Wounds and Healing
However, the painful reality is that anxiety often stems from wounds inflicted within relationships. Trauma, experiences of unkindness, and broken trust leave deep scars. It’s a sad irony that we often run from the very thing that heals us because we were hurt by it. Just like a child bitten by a dog fears all dogs, we often fear the vulnerability required for healing relationships. Yet, we heal in relationships.
Diving into Trust
In this section, we're going to delve into a topic many avoid: the power of trust relationships in healing. Returning to our intended design as image bearers of God, we find restoration through healthy connections. While some relationships are destructive, and the Bible advises us to avoid them, others are the very vessels of healing.
Defining a Healing Relationship
What defines a healing relationship? It’s a space with healthy boundaries, where vulnerability is safe, and you can be your undefended self. Our deepest longing is to be fully seen, flaws and all, and still be accepted and loved. This is how God sees us, and this is the core of a trust relationship.
The Indispensable Nature of Relational Healing
There is no substitute for the healing found within a relationship of trust. You can employ every coping mechanism, master every breathing technique, and read every self-help book, but fundamental healing occurs through connection. In the following discussion, we will explore how to cultivate healthy relationships with God, yourself, and others, paving the way for lasting healing.
