Rewriting Your Story: Finding Healing and Joy in God's Presence

When God looks at your past, at all your mess, He doesn't see disappointment. Instead, He desires to impart His joy to you, to see you smile. Before we delve into prayer, let's acknowledge this truth: God loves you so deeply that He wants to bring you joy, regardless of your circumstances. Even if this is difficult to believe, try to embrace it for a moment.

Identifying and Confronting the Lies

As we prepare to pray, consider the lies you've believed about yourself, tracing them back to their origins—perhaps childhood traumas or recent experiences. We ask the Holy Spirit to grant you wisdom and visions, to reveal the truth of your identity. Ask the Lord to pinpoint the wound that led to these lies, the root of your anxiety and fear. Was it a childhood incident? A hurtful comment that lingers? Let the Lord reveal it now.

Feeling and Seeing God's Presence

Now, imagine that moment. Feel it. What did it smell like? What was the atmosphere? It might be painful, but go there. Lord, bring that moment to life, the wound, the trauma, the lie spoken over them. And now, reveal where You are in that scene. What does Your face look like? What do You want to say? Where are You in the room?

Replacing Lies with Truth

Holy Spirit, reveal the truth about them, replacing the lies with the truth of scripture, their true identity in Christ. As images and memories surface, anchor yourself in God's truth. There is no confusion in God; He is love and on your side. Allow yourself to feel the hurt deeply, knowing that while the reality of what happened remains, the narrative can change. God renames people and rewrites stories throughout scripture.

God's Spirit of Life

Consider Ezekiel 37, where God showed Ezekiel a valley of dry bones—a symbol of hopelessness. Perhaps you see a similar scene from your past. But God enters that valley, commanding Ezekiel to prophesy, to speak life. The bones come together, tendons and flesh appear, and then God breathes His spirit into them, raising a vast army. This is what God wants to do for you.

Remembering God's Character: Redeemer and Story-Rewriter

The God who wants you to laugh, to smile, invades the darkest moments of your past, breathing life into what was dead. As you process these memories, remember your God: a redeemer, a renamer, a story-rewriter. Remember, nothing can separate you from His love.
